Tips

Submitting Your Application

Judges have provided the following suggestions as a guide to submitting a high quality application:

  • Make sure your Online Application fully addresses all of the evaluation criteria (general and category-specific criteria), and that responses are tailored for each criterion. This is especially critical given that the 2009 Awards allow only one application per project.
    .
  • Responses to each criterion/question are limited to 250 words. Please take this into account when composing your responses.
    .
  • Describe your project clearly and succinctly so that it is easy to understand for the reader (i.e. what is the project, when was it undertaken, who was involved, whether it is in development, testing or completed, what were the major outcomes, etc).
    .
  • Projects that simply reflect core business will not generally be rated as highly as initiatives that are above and beyond the agency's core functions.
    .
  • Projects that are innovative, sustainable, represent best practice and have had high impact are generally rated more highly.
    .
  • Remember to include any other awards or recognition that your project may have received.
    .
  • Proof reading is important to the overall presentation of your submission.

What to Bring to the Presentation

  • PowerPoint Presentation
If you prepare a PowerPoint presentation, please provide an electronic copy to the Public Sector Commission by email to premiersawards@psc.wa.gov.au
    .
  • An Executive Summary (maximum of 250 words)
The summary should outline the project, its features, and benefits achieved.
    .
  • A signed, original Entry Permission Form
As part of the Online Application, applicants must make a declaration that permission to enter the Awards has been obtained from the Director General/CEO of each agency involved. Prior to making a presentation to the category panel, applicants must provide an original Entry Permission Form with the signature of the Director General/CEO(s).
    .
  • Evidence to substantiate claims
It is most important to provide evidence (quantitative and/or qualitative) to substantiate claims of success and/or outcomes. Examples of evidence include statistics, quotes and case studies. Broad positive statements will not be considered as evidence.
    .
  • Visual Materials
Applicants are asked to submit additional visual materials - though not used in the assessment process, they will aid the Commission in recognising and promoting agencies’ achievements in relation to the Awards.

Ideally, materials should be provided on CD, DVD, or USB key - brochures or other items should be submitted in hardcopy as well. Where copies cannot be made of original materials, the originals will be returned by the Public Sector Commission after the completion of the Awards (please make this known upon submission of materials).
    .
    • Agency Logo
The agency logo (and project branding if it exists) must be supplied electronically. Appropriate file formats include AI, EPS, or high-resolution JPG or TIF files (high-resolution files tend to be in excess of 1MB in size).
      .
    • Photos & Images
At least 800 x 600 pixels in size (much larger if possible). High-resolution images tend to be over 1MB in file size, and file formats are generally JPG, TIF, PNG, GIF, or PSD.
      .
    • High-quality Printed Items
      Posters, brochures, publications, etc.
      .
    • Other
Promotional items, news items, website URLs, etc.
