Premier's Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management

The Premier's Awards were instituted in 1996 and aim to educate, stimulate and inspire agencies, local government authorities and universities to strive for excellence in the delivery of their services to the community. As well as recognising and celebrating world-class achievements by those involved in the delivery of public services, the Awards play an important role in motivating agencies to become more innovative in meeting the community's needs.

PREMIER’S MESSAGE

The Premier’s Awards for excellence in Public Sector Management recognize exemplary achievements in service to the community.  As such they seek to educate and inspire agencies, local government authorities and universities to strive for unrivalled delivery of services to the community.

It gives me great pleasure to invite entries for the 2008 Premier’s Awards for excellence in Public Sector Management.  They are the longest running awards of this type in Australia.  Now in their thirteenth year, they offer an outstanding opportunity for your organisation to showcase best practice and play a very important role in motivating and inspiring others.

The 2008 categories are aligned with the State Government’s Strategic Management Framework for the Public Sector. These categories include five diverse areas:

  • Creating a Healthy, Safe and Vibrant Western Australia;
  • Creating Jobs and Economic Prosperity;
  • Sustainable Management of the Environment;
  • Strengthening Regional Western Australia;
  • Improving Government.

The 2008 guidelines require four general and two category specific criteria to be met.

The criteria for the awards are squarely focussed on outcomes and evaluation of the same and have an increased emphasis on the ‘impact on government priorities’, superior delivery and the role of leadership in that delivery.

In recognition of the significant effort that has been invested by organisations in preparing a full written submission in previous years, the 2008 Premier’s Awards application process has been streamlined to make it easier and simpler to apply.   Organisations considering applying this year can take the first step with less effort by completing an online Expression of Interest.

I strongly encourage all Directors General and Chief Executives to raise the profile of projects that have achieved exceptional performance and outstanding service delivery for Western Australian people by nominating for the Awards.  This is an opportunity to be recognised by Government, your peers and the community for being innovative and achieving excellence in service delivery and one I urge you not to miss.

I look forward to seeing this year’s entries for 2008 Premier’s Awards.
